(San Diego, CA) - Playing their fourth game in eight days San Diego (4-6-1) tied visiting Cal Poly SLO (4-1-3) 0-0 Sunday afternoon at Torero Stadium. Freshman goalkeeper Karen Cook approached USD's single-game record for saves, fending off 13 Mustang shots through 110 minutes of soccer. Cal Poly SLO, back-to-back Big West Conference Champions, out-shot the Toreros 21-11. Veronica Ambort totaled three shots to lead all San Diego players.
Cook's 13 saves Sunday was just six off the Torero all-time single-game record of 19 set by Allison Worden in 1993. Both teams had a number of offensive opportunities throughout regulation play and into overtime. Cal Poly keeper Liz Hill was credited with three saves and forward Kelsey Carroll rattled off six shots.
The tie with Cal Poly SLO snaps a string of three straight losses for USD. Since 1996 San Diego has lost three straight games only two other times. San Diego continues its tough 2004 schedule next weekend when they host No. 3 Washington Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Utah Sunday at 12:00 noon.
