(Denver, CO) - Host Denver shutout the Toreros of San Diego 3-0 Saturday afternoon on a rain soaked and slippery Pioneer Field in collegiate women's soccer action. San Diego (2-2) had defeated No. 23 Colorado Friday, but a pair of second half goals by Denver (2-2) proved too much to overcome, sending USD home with a split of the two-game road trip. Diana Brunkhardt, Holly Huppert and Lleane Grimditch each scored a goal for the Pioneers. Brunkhardt scored the first goal of the game late in the first half in the 39th minute when Grimditch served the ball to Jenna Billingsley (Littleton, Colo.). It bobbled in the middle before Brunkhardt struck the ball from about 10 yards out, blasting it to the top left corner over the goalkeeper Karen Cook. Huppert scored very early in the second half, not even realizing at first that she had scored her first goal as a Pioneer. Right after kickoff, Huppert took the ball down the right side of the field and blasted a long ball over the keeper and into the top left corner of the net. The third and final goal of the afternoon, scored by Grimditch, in the 55th minute secured Denver's victory in its final game in the University of Denver Soccer Classic.
