USD scored two goals in the first 9 minutes of the match and held off the UC Irvine Anteaters for a 2-1 victory, completing a tournament sweep this weekend. In the sixth minute, Michael Caso scored off a deflection of a Ryan Guy shot to put the Toreros up 1-0. It was Caso's first goal of the year and Guy's third assist in two games. Exactly three minutes later, Scott Martin assisted on a Calle Rendahl shot from the left box that went in the net for the eventual game-winner. The Anteaters cut the lead to one in the 65th minute when Brad Evans scored on a free kick, but the Torero defense stayed tough for the final 25 minutes for the win. San Diego was named the UC Irvine College Classic Champion after being the only team to go undefeated over the weekend. Defender Tommy Von Bromsen was named tournament MVP. Lance Friesz, Kevin Meissner, Andrew Ehrich and Brett Hiroto were also named to the All-Tournament team. Next for the Toreros is a road trip up the coast to take on Cal Berkeley on Friday, September 10th and Stanford on Sunday, September 12th.
