On Friday, January 28, the University of San Diego Women's Tennis team will kick off its dual season against No. 17 California at 1:00 P.M. The match will be played at the West Tennis Courts.

The women's team is coached by Sherri Stephens, who is in her 21st year at San Diego. The squad has earned a preseason ranking of 54. She will rely on the services of senior Lauren Kazarian and juniors Emma Murphy and Lauren Perl this year as they look to improve upon their 11-9 finish last season. Murphy will be counted on heavily in the singles department, as the native from Ireland is currently ranked No. 48 in the country.

The California Golden Bears (1-0) are coming off a win against No. 56 Cal Poly. In her 26th season, Jan Brogan hopes to mold her youthful team into a championship contender, despite the loss of graduated seniors Jieun Jacobs, Nicole Havlicek and Raquel Kops-Jones. Freshman Suzi Babos has stepped up admirably, earning a national ranking of No. 3 due to her stellar play during the Fall Season. With just two upperclassmen on the roster, the Golden Bears will count on contributions from its freshmen and sophomore classes.
