MORAGA, Calif. (AP) - Jonathan Sanders and Daniel Kickert each hit two 3-pointers in the final 5 minutes, and Saint Mary's took sole possession of first place in the West Coast Conference with a 79-69 victory over San Diego on Thursday night.
Paul Marigney scored 19 points - including the 1,000th of his career - for the Gaels (18-5, 5-1), who moved in front of Santa Clara atop the conference standings with the Broncos' loss to San Francisco.
Kickert scored 17 points and Sanders had 16, while E.J. Rowland scored 15 points and hit the go-ahead 3-pointer midway through a decisive run in the second half.
Nick Lewis scored 17 points and Brandon Gay had 16 for the Toreros (10-9, 2-4).
Saint Mary's trailed eight minutes into the second half, but the Toreros were limited to 29 percent shooting in the second half after they hit 51.2 percent of their shots in the before halftime.
San Diego managed just two baskets in the final eight minutes, while Saint Mary's made a season-high 57.7 percent of its shots, including 62.5 percent in the second half.
