(San Diego, CA) The Toreros 4-game winning streak against city rival San Diego State ended in a 1-0 non-conference defeat Monday night in front of 1,008 fans at Torero Stadium. The Aztecs move to 8-1-4 overall while USD falls to 6-4-3 but remain 2-3-1 in WCC play.
Both the Aztecs and the Toreros had plenty of attempts to score in the match. San Diego fired off 9 shots to San Diego State's 14 attempts.
SDSU's lone goal came in the 63rd minute when forward Heath Creager attempted a shot from 25 yards out. The Torero defense blocked the shot completely but was not able to clear the ball from their penalty box. Off the rebound by the defense, freshman forward Omar Persad took a right-footed shot from 20 yards out and scored in the lower left side.
The Toreros mounted many attacks on SDSU in an attempt to tie the match but were not able to put a shot into the net. SDSU goalie Tally Hall recorded 6 saves on the night while Torero Goalie posted 2 saves.
The Toreros are back in action Friday, Oct. 28 to host University of Portland at 8:00 pm.
