RIVERSIDE, CA - Highlander center Kemie Nkele scored 21 points to lead host UC Riverside past San Diego 63-56 Friday night in the season-opener for both clubs. San Diego (0-1) trailed by 12 at the half and UCR (1-0) would hold on to win its first season opener at the Division I level. USD received 11 rebounds from Ashley Voisinet and Sabine Loewe was 5-for-5 from the field. The Toreros had never lost to UCR coming into Friday night's match-up at UCR's Student Recreation Center.
