San Diego Runs Past UC Riverside, 82-65

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) - Nick Lewis scored a career-high 29 points as San Diego beat UC Riverside 82-65 Saturday in Riverside.

Lewis made 13-for-16 shots from the field and 3-for-4 from the free throw line. Senior Corey Belser notched his second straight double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds in the win. USD returns home with a 2-2 mark as they prepare for Wednesday's home opener against SDSU. USD used a 9-0 run to start the second half and build on their 34-25 halftime lead.

Ross DeRogatis and Corey Belser scored 12 points apiece, and Gyno Pomare had 10 for San Diego (2-2).

Belser led the Toreros with 10 rebounds, and Lewis had eight.

UC Riverside (0-3) shot just 32.4 percent, 23.7 percent in the first half. The Highlanders connected on only four of their 22 3-point attempts.

San Diego led throughout, starting with a 6-0 run on the way to a 34-25 halftime lead.

The Toreros' biggest lead was 25 in the second half when Nir Cohen made a lay-up with 9:56 to play that put them ahead 63-38.

San Diego shot 58.9 percent (33-for-56), well above their 44 percent season average.

Larry Cunningham led UC Riverside with 18 points. Houston Power scored 13, and Rickey Porter had 11.
