San Diego, Calif. - The No. 52 University of San Diego snapped a two-game losing streak Sunday afternoon when they defeated visiting Furman University by a score of 4-3. With the win, the Toreros improve to 2-3, while the Lady Paladins fall to 3-3 on the season.
San Diego started off the afternoon on a good note by capturing the doubles point. Although Jenny Brown and Lauren Kazarian dropped their match at the No. 1 spot, their teammates were ready to pick up the slack. Helene Lindstrand and Tara Livesay triumphed at the No. 3 spot with an 8-6 victory over Shannon Moore and Lauren Osborne, while Emma Murphy and Lauren Perl won a tight match at the No. 2 position by a score of 9-8.
In singles, the Toreros won three matches to secure their second victory of the year. Emma Murphy (No. 1), Tara Livesay (No. 3), and Lauren Kazarian (No. 4) all won by identical scores of 6-1, 6-1. Jenny Brown was involved in the afternoon's most exciting match at the No. 5 spot, as she stretched Jacqueline Eckert to three sets, eventually falling 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-7).
San Diego will return to action on March 3, when they host the University of Hawai'i at the USD West Tennis Courts. Game time is set at 2:30 P.M.
