San Diego, Calif. - The University of San Diego beat fellow West Coast Conference rival St. Mary's College in convincing fashion this morning at the USD West Tennis Courts. The Toreros, ranked No. 50 in the nation, won the second match of the WCC Challenge with their 7-0 victory over the Gaels.
San Diego captured the doubles point behind the strong play of its No. 2 and No. 3 teams. On Court 2, Emma Murphy and Lauren Perl did not lose a game on their way to an easy victory over Kristin Kummer and Megan Schulman, while Tara Livesay and Helene Lindstrand comfortably defeated Feline Charlot and Stef Ordoveza 8-4 at the No. 3 spot.
In singles play, Lindstrand blew away Kummer 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 5 spot to give San Diego the 2-0 lead. At No. 4, Livesay took out Schulman 6-3, 6-1 and Lauren Kazarian clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Kate Harden on Court 2. Jenna Anderson, in her season debut, defeated Ordoveza 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 6 position and both Lauren Perl and Emma Murphy closed out their matches with wins to account for the final score.
San Diego pulls even to 5-5 after today's victory, while St. Mary's College falls to 6-4. The Toreros return to action next Wednesday when they host No. 75 Yale University.
