San Diego, Calif. - The University of San Diego fell to Clemson University this morning at the USD West Tennis Courts by a score of 7-0. The 69th-ranked Toreros were not able to match the depth in both singles and doubles of the No. 13 Tigers, though they battled valiantly for every point. San Diego falls to 7-7 on the year, while Clemson improves to 11-6.
Clemson got off to a great start in doubles, as their No. 1 duo of Julie Coin and Romy Farah took out Jenny Brown and Lauren Kazarian 8-1. Daniela Alvarez and Ioana Paun followed up with an 8-3 victory over Helene Lindstrand and Tara Livesay. With the doubles point already sewed up, a battle was brewing on Court 2 and San Diego prevailed, as Emma Murphy and Lauren Perl overcome a difficult Tiger pairing in Maria Brito and Richelle LeSaldo, 9-8 (5).
In singles, Clemson added to their team total, as Perl and Livesay were defeated at their respective positions. No. 46 Murphy was not able to contain No. 2 Coin, and the match was clinched after Coin triumphed on Court 1. Brown, Lindstrand and Kazarian also lost their matches, but fought hard for every point.
San Diego returns to action on Friday when they take on No. 40 Sacramento State. The match will be played at the USD West Tennis Center and game time will be at 9:30 A.M.
