Santa Barbara, Calif. - On Sunday afternoon, the University of San Diego traveled to the University of California, Santa Barbara and blanked the Gauchos 7-0. The Toreros, ranked No. 35 in the country, are riding on a four-match winning streak and have won 12 out of their last 13 contests. San Diego improves to 12-4 on the season while the Gauchos fall to 4-9.
The Toreros took a quick 1-0 lead in the dual match after all three doubles teams swept their opponents. Nic Beuque and Mirza Koristovic took out Nick Brotman and Ivan d'Argence at the No. 1 spot 8-2. On Court 2, Pierrick Ysern and Oscar Plotnik followed up with a win over Alex Anselme and Andres Dalskov 8-3 and Robbie Blair and Thomas Liversage overwhelmed Leo Basica and Elad Stern 8-1 at the No. 3 position.
In singles, San Diego showed its depth by winning all six singles matches, even though head coach Tom Hagedorn rested his No. 1 guy, 9th-ranked Pierrick Ysern. Taking the junior's place on Court 1 was senior Nic Beuque, who quietly dispatched Alex Anselme 6-0, 6-2. Mirza Koristovic outlasted Nick Brotman at the No. 2 spot 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, while Robbie Blair had no problems with Ivan d'Argence at the No. 3 position, winning 6-2, 6-2. Over on Court 4, Thomas Liversage overcame a second set meltdown to defeat Leo Basic 7-5, 1-6, 1-0 (7) and Oscar Plotnik out-dueled Elad Stern at the No. 5 spot, 6-4, 7-5. Playing at the No. 6 position, Matt Ozurovich defeated Andres Dalskov 6-2, 6-3 to complete the Torero sweep.
San Diego next plays on Monday afternoon when they take on Harvard University on the campus of UC Santa Barbara. Game time will be at 1:30 P.M.
