San Diego, Calif. - The University of San Diego is proud to host the 2005 West Coast Conference Women's Tennis Championships this upcoming weekend. At stake this weekend will be an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament, beginning May 13 and 14. Pepperdine has won the WCC tournament 14 out of the last 15 years, with Loyola Marymount claiming the title in 2002.
The tournament will officially kick-off Friday morning at 9:00 A.M., when defending champion and No. 1 seed Pepperdine (11-8) takes on No. 8 Gonzaga (8-13). Fourth-seeded Santa Clara (14-6) will also be playing against fifth-seeded St. Mary's (7-9) at the same time. In the afternoon session beginning at 1:00 P.M., host school and No. 2 seed San Diego (7-10) will battle No. 7 Portland (7-13). Third-seeded Loyola Marymount (9-12) will also compete against sixth-seeded San Francisco (7-10) at the same time slot.
The WCC Championships will continue on through Saturday and Sunday, with play beginning each day at 9:00 A.M.
