(Athens, GA) -- Junior Emma Murphy (Cork, Ireland), USD's two-time WCC Women's Tennis Player of the Year, won her first round match today at the playing of the 2005 NCAA Individual Championships. Murphy downed sophomore Megan Moulton-Levy (Monroe, MI) of William & Mary in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. Murphy advances to Tuesday's second round where she will face No. 5 seed Jennifer Magley (Jr.; Bradenton, Fla.) of the University of Florida.
Magley, ranked 5th in the latest ITA rankings, won the final 5 games of her third set to hold off Stanford's Whitney Deason, 7-6 (9), 5-7, 6-4. The championships are being held on the campus of the University of Georgia.
