The University of San Diego Torero softball team posted a 6-4 record for the 2005 fall season, which concluded in mid-November. The schedule consisted of ten scrimmages which helped prepare the Toreros for their traditional spring season as well as give the coaches a look at each player's strengths and abilities.
USD posted an impressive .321 team batting average, tallied 77 hits and 47 runs in the ten fall match-ups. The Toreros won the USD Fall Tournament on November 5th, defeating UCSD 11-10, and Cal Baptist 3-2. Other fall victories included defeating Biola 6-0 on October 29th, Arizona Western in double-header action 2-0 and 10-0 on November 4th, and defeated UCSD again 7-1 on November 11th.
"I was pleased with our offensive performance, solid defense and quality outings from our pitching staff throughout the fall," said Head Coach Melissa McElvain.
"We are looking forward to making adjustments and improvements during the off-season which will lead to an even more productive spring.
"The fall season was a great opportunity to build a solid foundation for the upcoming season and we are very optimistic about 2006."
The fifth annual 100 Inning Game took place on October 30th. USD played host to the Biola Eagles for their annual fundraiser event. The Toreros not only defeated the Eagles, but also raised approximately $8,000 which will help enhance equipment, facilities and recruiting. The Toreros appreciate all the support and donations that made this event such a success.
