Seven Toreros Earn All-WCC Recognition

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — With the 2025 softball season now in the rear view mirror, the San Diego softball program is ecstatic to announce that seven of the team's student-athletes were honored as All-WCC selections on Wednesday afternoon.

Taylor Johnson was picked to the All-WCC Second Team, Sophia Pinedo earned a spot on the All-WCC Freshman Team and five USD student-athletes picked up All-WCC Honorable Mention nods with McKenna Braegelmann, Alyssa Hernandez, Shawnese Hogue-Lacy, Kelsey Tadlock and Kaitlyn Wynia all picking up accolades.

Johnson, had another standout season at the plate as she earns all-conference recognition for the second season in a row. She led the Toreros in home runs (9), RBI (37), on-base percentage (.400), slugging percentage (.575) and OPS (.975). A force in the middle of the lineup and a stalwart at first base, Taylor had a key two home run game to help her team pick up a sweep over Montana as she earned WCC Player of the Week honors following the team's impressive showing against the Grizzlies. Her nine home runs were the most for a San Diego player in a season since Alexia Torculas hit five during the 2022 season.

Pinedo, made an instant impact for her team which included getting the start on Opening Day as the Toreros' shortstop. Posting a .300 batting average, Sophia had a standout performance to help USD pick up a road series win at Weber State as she went a perfect 3-for-3 with a run scored to help lead the Toreros to an important road victory in non-conference action. Showing strong defensive prowess as well, Pinedo committed just two errors while captaining the USD infield.

Braegelmann, put together a phenomenal final season to cap her collegiate career as she recorded a 4-5 record in 16 games pitched to go along with a sparkling 3.23 ERA, 55 strikeouts, three complete games and a .241 opponent batting average. She authored one of the highlights of the Toreros' season as she threw a no-hitter in a road victory over LMU and then threw a complete game the following day to help San Diego pick up a key conference series win. For her efforts, McKenna picked up her second career WCC Pitcher of the Week award.

Hernandez, battled through injuries early in her college career and made the most of her final season by starting at second base in all 49 of the Toreros' games in 2025. A consistent hitter and defender, Alyssa led the Toreros with 46 hits and delivered some clutch hits for USD which included a pair of go-ahead home runs in road victories over Weber State and LMU. Putting her name in USD's record books, Hernandez drove in the first run at the team's Reggie Smith Softball Complex with an RBI double that plated Johnson in San Diego's series with the Broncos to begin conference play.

Hogue-Lacy, had a phenomenal junior season as she emerged as the Toreros' primary catcher in 2025 and posted an impressive .313 batting average in 36 games played for USD. Shawnese came through multiple times for her team on offense as she hit her first collegiate home run in a road loss at California Baptist and would deliver a critical two-run home run in the first game of San Diego's series with Montana. Excelling behind the plate leading the USD staff, Hogue-Lacy helped the Toreros to a conference-best eight saves while comitting just four errors for a .975 fielding percentage.

Tadlock, turned in a great season as one of the work horses on San Diego's pitching staff as she led USD in innings pitched with 105 and posted a 7-8 record with a 3.47 ERA and a team-best six saves. Making 13 starts and 33 total appearances for USD in 2025, Tadlock got the Opening Day start for San Diego and posted six strong innings and followed up that great showing by throwing a 10 inning complete game allowing just oe run and striking out nine hitters to help her team take down CBU. Midway through the season she came up huge for the Toreros in the series sweep over Montana as she tossed 12 1/3 innings and allowed just one earned run as she picked up her second career WCC Pitcher of the Week award.

Wynia, rounds out the USD selections as she was a catalyst at the top of the Torero batting order and played strong defense at both corner outfield positions. The Southern California native led USD with a .328 batting average and three triples, while getting on-base at an impressive .391 clip in 2025. Kaitlyn put together a phenomenal weekend to begin the new season as she went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in USD's victory over Lipscomb at a neutral site tournament at Texas State where she hit .600 across all four games played.

Pinedo, Hernandez, Hogue-Lacy, Tadlock and Wynia each earned their first career all-conference nods, while Johnson and Braegelmann have been honored at least once prior in their Torero careers.
