JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Josh Johnson tossed four first-half touchdowns and finished with a career best 384 yards passing to lead San Diego to a 38-21 win over Jacksonville on Saturday. He also set a school single game record with 470 total yards of offense.
With the win, San Diego (9-0, 6-0 Pioneer League) clinched their second straight conference championship. With one PFL game to go the Toreros own the tie-breaker over Drake (5-1).
The Toreros, which have the longest winning streak in Division I-AA at 17 wins, are still hopeful of receiving an invite to the I-AA playoffs as an at-large participant.
"We got tremendous games from Josh Johnson and Wes Doyle, along with the entire offensive line," said head coach Jim Harbaugh. "Defensively we made some great adjustments at halftime, and overcame some adverse conditions. This was another impressive win on the road for our team."
A 6-foot-3 junior, Johnson hit 19 of 27 passes for 287 yards in the first half as San Diego opened a 28-14 lead. He connected with wide receiver Wes Doyle in the first quarter for scoring passes of 16 and 70 yards.
Johnson added a third scoring toss to Doyle from 9 yards out with 4 minutes left in the half. His other first-half TD pass was a 21-yarder to Chris Ramsey.
Johnson finished 30-of-43 for 384 yards, for career highs in completions and yards. He also hurt Jacksonville with his scrambling, running for 86 yards in 11 attempts.
Doyle finished with eight receptions for 136 yards and three touchdowns. JT Rogan led San Diego's ground attack with 95 yards on 22 carries.
Jacksonville's Jerry Brant rushed for 161 yards on nine carries in the first quarter, including 80-yard and 59-yard TD runs that gave Jacksonville (4-5, 4-2) a 14-7 lead.
But San Diego controlled Brant the rest of the game, holding him to 49 yards in 15 attempts in the final three quarters.
Jacksonville's final score came when Chris Horton found tight end Tim Kraemer in the end zone with a 3-yard pass early in the fourth quarter.
Horton finished with 219 yards on 12-of-35 passing.
