SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Josh Johnson threw for five touchdowns and ran for another to lead San Diego to a 62-23 win over Jacksonville on Saturday night.
Johnson only played the first half as the Toreros (7-0, 4-0 Pioneer Football League) won their 23rd consecutive home game. San Diego scored touchdowns on all eight possessions in the first half for a 56-14 halftime lead.
The Toreros, two-time defending PFL champions, have won 34 of 36 games and 19 straight conference games. The win sets up next Saturday's key PFL road game at Dayton (7-1, 3-1 pfl) at Welcome Stadium.
JT Rogan scored three times, first on a 3-yard pass from Johnson, and on runs of 15 and 13 yards. Rogan rushed for 115 yards on 19 carries.
Johnson accounted for 304 of San Diego's 380 yards of total offense in the first half. Johnson, who scored on a 12-yard run, completed 17 of 22 passes for 249 yards. In addition to his TD pass to Rogan, his other scoring throws covered 45, 9, 15 and 18 yards.
Johnson, who raised his career starting record to 28-2, has thrown 28 touchdown passes this season with no interceptions.
Besides Johnson and Rogan, USD received some solid offensive performances - Wes Doyle caught 5 balls for 68 yards and 1 TD; Godfrey Smith hauled in 3 passes for 70 yards and 1 score; Justin Fontenberry rushed for 56 yards on just 6 carries; and Derron Juarez added 51 rushing yards.
Defensively the Toreros were paced by FS Patrick O'Neill (6 tackles, 1 interception), CB Nick Vassiliadis (6 stops), DE Eric Bakhtiari (5 tackles, 1 sack, 1 QB hurry) and DL John G'Sell (4 stops, 2.5 sacks).
Jacksonville (2-5, 1-3 PFL) cut San Diego's lead to 14-7 in the first quarter on a 10-yard pass from Chris Horton to Nathan Conner. Horton also threw a 20-yard TD pass to Geavon Tribble.
