VALPARAISO, Ind. - University of San Diego's JT Rogan ran in four touchdowns to tie a school record for most rushing touchdowns in a single game helping USD to a 41-27 victory. The Toreros improve to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the PFL while Valpo drops to 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the PFL.
"Our team faced some adversity today," said Ron Caragher, USD head coach. "I like the way our kids battled and competed today. We are coming home with a hard-fought win."
San Diego scored four of their six touchdowns in the first half. The first two quarters was highlighted by a 23 yard touchdown run by JT Rogan with 1:11 remaining lifting USD to a 27-20 lead.
The Toreros scored two more touchdowns in the second half including a five-yard touchdown pass from Nick Coppedge. Rogan also had a 24 yard to tally his fourth touchdown of the game.
Rogan finished with 127 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Josh Johnson finished 20-for-31 passing, 208 yards of total offense, 91 yards rushing, and two touchdown passes. Defensively, Ben Hannula, Taber LeMarr, and Patrick O'Neill all had interceptions. While Chris Gianelli and Paul Tremblay recorded a sack.
"It was a hot and humid day in Valparaiso," commented Caragher. "I feel like our team battled through a tough environment and we competed well. We're able to return home with a big victory."
The Toreros will take on the Drake Bulldogs at home on October 13 at 6:00 p.m. .
