San Diego Finishes 2007 Season With Win Over San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The University of San Diego Toreros finished the 2007 regular season with a 2-1 victory over the University of San Francisco Don's Sunday afternoon. The win improves USD's record to 11-8-1 overall, and an 8-3-1 WCC mark while the Don's fell to 7-11-1 and 3-8-1 in conference.

The Toreros were off to a slow start as the Don's scored early in the match. Forward Jordan Keyes took a shot which was blocked by Torero keeper Kelin Briones. The ball bounced back to Ben Dessard who sent a pass to the post Ardalan Atter who nailed a shot in the lower corner of the net.

USD responded nine minutes later in the 12th minute when San Francisco came at the Toreros with a hard foul. Colin Jennings lined up a free kick which found the net for the 1-1 tie.

San Diego stepped up again 22nd minute to take the lead when sophomore forward JT Howlan put a nice juke move just outside the penalty box breaking through the defense leaving just the keeper to beat. Howlan shot's went right for the 2-1 win over USF.

USD keeper Kelin Briones allowed one goal and recorded four saves. Don's keeper Eric Conner allowed two goals and recorded four saves. San Francisco out-shot USD 17-7.

San Diego finishes the season in better shape than last year 11-8-1 overall and above .500, an improvement upon last season.
