Clutch Performances Elevate Toreros Past Pilots, 82-76

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Nir Cohen scored 23 points and Ross DeRogatis hit a pair of key 3-pointers to lift San Diego to an 82-76 victory over Portland on Saturday.

DeRogatis sank a 3-point shot to give San Diego (16-12, 6-7 West Coast) its first lead since midway through the first half at 64-61 at the 7:20 mark. The senior then made another 3 to put the Toreros ahead 67-61.

Brandon Johnson sealed the win with a long 3-pointer as the shot clock expired for a 78-73 lead with 26 seconds remaining.

DeRogatis, who made four free throws in the final 14 seconds, finished with 18 points. Cohen, who finished one point shy of his career high, hit 4-of-6 shots from 3-point range. Gyno Pomare added 17 points.

Portland (8-21, 4-9) lost for the 12th time in 13 road games after taking a 40-38 halftime lead while shooting 59 percent.

Sherrard Watson led Portland with 21 points, Ben Sullivan added 16 and Jamie Jones had 15. The Pilots shot 40.7 percent in the second half, including only 2-for-9 from 3-point range.
