Final Results 
El Cajon, CA - The USD men's golf team finished in 3rd place out of the 20-team field at the 2008 Sycuan Collegiate Invitational being played at the Willow Glen Golf Course (par 72; 6687 yards). USD, which was the team leader after both the first and second rounds, shot a final round team score of 289 to finish at a very respectable 839 (25-under par) and cap off an impressive tournament. Colorado State (837) edged out a fast-charging UC Santa Barbara (838) for the team title. Wichita State's Dustin Garza won medalist honors with his 16-under par 200 (71-61-68). USD freshman Alex Ching was USD's top finisher at 209 (68-71-70); his 7-under total was good for a top-10 finish and tie for 8th place with Nick Ellis of Washington State.
Rounding out USD's scoring for the team event was Jason Shano (t-11th at 211; 67-69-75), Blake Trimble (t-19th at 212; 71-68-73), Darrin Hall (t-19th at 212; 70-70-72) and Jake Yount (t-28th at 214; 73-67-74). Four Toreros played as individuals with Dale Smith leading the way at 211 (70-69-72). He was followed by the trio of Ian Coffman (t-35th at 216; 72-69-75), Ben Murray (t-46th at 217; 76-70-71) and Gunner Wiebe (t-79th at 223; 77-72-74).
USD's next competition will be Nov. 3-5 at the Kauai Collegiate Invitational.
