LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The 19th-ranked University of San Diego women's soccer team saw their season-high nine-match unbeaten streak come to an end with a 3-0 loss to No. 3 UCLA Sunday afternoon in a non-conference match at Drake Stadium.
With the loss, The Toreros fall to 7-3-2 overall and with the win, the Bruins improve to 9-0-2 overall.
UCLA's Kristina Larsen scored the game-winner in the 56th minute of action, as Kara Lang sent a pass to Lauren Barnes, who in turn fed the ball to Larsen who took a close range shot to give UCLA the 1-0 lead.
The Bruins scored their second goal of the match in the 60th minute of action as Christina DiMartino dribbled across the box and shot the ball into the far right corner to give UCLA a 2-0 lead.
The final UCLA goal came in the 82nd minute of action, as Lauren Wilmoth took a shot from the far right to the far left post, which put the match at its final of 3-0.
In the first half, the Toreros and Bruins battled back and forth through a scoreless 45 minutes of action. Senior goalkeeper Brittany Cameron made several impressive saves to keep the Toreros in the match. In the 22nd minute of action, the Toreros committed a penalty inside the goal box, setting up a penalty kick for the Bruins. Cameron was able to get her leg stretched out and prevented the goal, preserving the scoreless contest.
USD wasn't without their own scoring opportunities, as in the 67th minute of action, Allison Wolters rocketed off a laser strike, but the UCLA goalkeeper was there to make the save. Amy Epsten also had a good scoring opportunity come her way as in the 54th minute of action, Epsten was able to fire off a shot, that was blocked by the Bruins defense to prevent the Toreros from getting on the scoreboard.
The Bruins outshot the Toreros 20-9 and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Cameron was saddled with the loss for the Toreros as she allowed three goals and recorded a match-best eight saves. Her counterpart, Ashley Thompson, was credited with the win for the Bruins as she allowed no goals and recorded two saves.
The Toreros will return to action on Wednesday in their final West Coast Conference tune-up against Long Beach State in a 3 p.m. match at Long Beach.
