NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Seniors Kiva Herman and Amber Sprague each recorded 20 points and 11 rebounds to help pace the University of San Diego women's basketball team (2-1) to a 64-51 win over Cal State Northridge (0-3) Wednesday evening in a non-conference game at the Matadome.
Herman scored her 20 points on a 7-for-11 performance from the field and tied her career-high with 11 rebounds for a double-double. Sprague scored her 20 points on a 7-for-19 performance from the floor and recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 boards. As a team, USD shot 40 percent from the floor and out rebounded the Matadors 49-33.
Right from the get-go, San Diego was clicking on all cylinders as they opened the game with a 10-3 run that was sparked on a Dominique Conners free throw and capped on a Sprague jumper to give USD the early momentum with 16:23 remaining in the half. After a CSUN basket, a Morgan Henderson lay-up then ignited a 10-5 Torero run that was book ended on a Herman jumper to give USD a double-digit advantage at 20-10 with 11:35 remaining in the half. San Diego would eventually build their lead up to 14 at 32-18 heading into the break.
In the second half, the Toreros kept the pedal to the medal and would maintain that 14-point lead for a majority of the half. USD would eventually build up their lead to as man as 18 on a Herman jumper with 10:42 remaining in the game to give USD a 56-38 lead. San Diego never looked back as they would go on to claim a 64-51 win over the Matadors.
For Northridge, Analee Viena-Lotta led the offensive charge as she had a team-high 15 points and the second CSUN player in double figures was Bridgette Conejo, who had 14 points. The Matadors shot 35 percent from the field as a team.
San Diego will return to action on Saturday as they host Cal Poly in a 2 p.m. non-conference contest at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
