SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The 13th-ranked University of San Diego women's soccer team (0-2-0) was upset, 1-0, by UC Santa Barbara (2-1-0) Friday evening in a non-conference match.
In the 89th minute of the match, UCSB's Alyssa Benjamin controlled a rebound off a shot by Cory Yoshida that hit the cross bar, and was able to redirect the ball into the back of the net and give the Gauchos the win.
The Toreros had a great scoring opportunity come in the 52nd minute of action as senior Amy Epsten took a shot the hit the post, but then bounced to the feet of the Gauchos, preserving the, then scoreless contest.
USD was outshot, 10-5, and the Gauchos held an 8-4 territorial advantage in corner kicks.
Brittany Cameron was saddled with the loss in goal as she allowed one goal and recorded one save. Her counterpart, Tammy Lenham was credited with the win as she allowed no goals and recorded one save.
San Diego will return to action on Sunday at 6 p.m. as they host UC Irvine in a non-conference game at Torero Stadium.
