LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Behind a 25 kill and 11 dig performance from junior outside hitter Amy Mahinalani DeGroot, the 23rd-ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team (5-0) cruised to a 25-15, 25-12, 25-22 win over the University of Oklahoma (1-4) Friday evening in a non-conference match at the Holiday Inn LA City Center Trojan Invitational.

DeGroot led all players with her 25 kills on 52 attempts, while only committing five errors to post a .385 attack percentage. Senior setter Jessica Nyrop recorded a match-high 42 assists, while helping direct the San Diego offense to a .333 attack percentage. Five Toreros were in double-digit digs led by Andrea Csaszi's 15.

In the first set, the Sooners grabbed the first point, but a kill from DrGroot off a set from Nyrop ignited a 4-0 run that was capped on an Ashton Basch kill to give USD the early momentum. Then with the score at 8-6 in favor of the Toreros, a Jaimarie Sutherland kill off a set from Nyrop ignited a 11-3 Torero run to give USD all the momentum and a 19-9 lead that San Diego never looked back on as they cruised their way to a 25-15 win.

In set two, the Toreros continued their momentum from set one as they jumped out to a 10-1 lead that was capped on back-to-back DeGroot kills. That set the tone for the match as USD simply overpowered the Sooners and they cruised their way to a 25-12 win in order to take a 2-0 lead going into the break.

Oklahoma made set three a tough one for the Toreros as both teams took their turn with the lead, but neither team had a lead bigger then two. Then with the score knotted at 21-21, kills from DeGroot and Jillian Wolpman along with attack errors by the Sooners led to the Torero 25-22 victory, allowing USD to remain undefeated on the season.

The Toreros will return to action on Saturday as they conclude play at the tournament against the host and seventh-ranked USC Trojans.
