The USD mens' golf team competed in the 2nd Annual San Diego Intercollegiate, presented by Lamkin Grips, on Monday at the La Jolla Country Club (par 72, 6685 yards). With temperatures in the mid-50s and a strong wind, USD sophomore Gunner Wiebe carded the day's lowest two-round total. In the 36-hole event featuring players from the five local colleges, Wiebe shot the day's only sub-par score, a 2-under-par 70 in the afternoon, and won medalist honors at 1-over 145. He carded five birdies and three bogeys for back-to-back 35's in his afternoon round.
Both USD and SDSU had players competing as individuals, while Point Loma Nazarene was the top team finisher at 614 and was led by reigning NAIA national champion Sam Cyr, whose 73 in the morning was the only round under 75. San Marcos (632) and UC San Diego (635) followed. Cyr tied for second at 150 with Cal State San Marcos' D.J. Harries. Ben Murray (USD) and Ryan Citarella (SDSU) tied at 151. Cal State San Marcos (632) was second and UCSD (635) was third.
Other Toreros competing included Ben Murray (t-3rd at 151; 75-76), Dale Smith (154; 77-77), Darrin Hall (155; 78-77), Kenneth McCready (156; 78-78) and Ian Coffman (156; 78-78).
