SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Sophomore forward Stephanie Ochs scored a pair of goals and Elissa Magracia scored the game-winner in the ninth minute of action to propel the University of San Diego women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Loyola Marymount University Friday evening in a West Coast Conference match at Torero Stadium.
With the win, the Toreros improve to 9-5-2 overall and remain in a tie for second place in the WCC standings with a 3-1-0 record. With the loss, the Lions fall to 9-5-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the WCC.
At the 8:49 mark, Stephanie Ochs sent a diagonal cross into the far side of the goal box, where Magracia sprinted to the ball. Once Magracia got the ball, the LMU goalkeeper made a dive for the ball, but Magracia went right past her and rocketed the ball into the back of the net to give USD the only goal they would need.
Ochs then tallied her first goal of the match in the 25th minute of action. Magracia was in a giving mood this time, as she sent a cross to Ochs, who then dribbled the ball past a pair of defenders and hit a laser strike out of the reach of the LMU `keeper, to give USD a 2-0 lead.
Ochs then put the match out of reach in the 54th minute, as she battled for a lose ball near mid field, won the battle, and slipped behind the defenders to have a one-on-one situation with the goalkeeper. Ochs then fooled the `keeper and drilled the ball into the back of the net to give her a team-leading five goals on the season, and put the match at its final of 3-0.
San Diego out shot the Lions 12-3 and held a 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Courtney Parsons picked up the win in goal for the Toreros as she allowed no goals and recorded a pair of saves. Allyssa Clark was saddled with the loss in goal for the Lions as she allowed three goals and recorded six saves.
San Diego will return to action on Sunday when they host Pepperdine University in a 1 p.m. WCC match at Torero Stadium.
