BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The 13th-ranked University of San Diego women's soccer team (1-1-0) was upset by Cal State Bakersfield (2-0-0) Sunday evening in a non-conference match.
The Toreros got on the scoreboard first, as in the 68th minute, Sierra Ferreira controlled a pass from Natalie Garcia, and chipped in the ball over the goalkeepers head and past a CSUB defender, to give USD a 1-0 lead.
Twenty seconds later, the Toreros committed a penalty inside their goal box, which set up a penalty kick for the Roadrunners, and Raquel Gervas was able to get one past USD's sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Parsons to even the score at 1-1.
Then in the 70th minute of action, the Roadrunners took the lead, as Kassie Massey headed the ball into the back of the net to give CSUB a 2-1 victory.
Courtney Parsons was saddled with the loss in goal for the Toreros as she allowed two goals and recorded two saves. Kym Gause was credited with the win in goal for the Roadrunners as she allowed one goal and recorded eight saves.
USD out shot CSUB 20-10, however both teams had one corner kick each.
The Toreros will return to action on Friday when they welcome No. 5 UCLA to Torero Stadium for a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
