TUCSON, Ariz. - Freshman striker Erica Peeples scored a pair of goals and senior midfielder's Hallie Huston and Christine Mock added in one goal each to help propel the 15th-ranked University of San Diego women's soccer team to a 4-1 non-conference win over the University of Arizona Sunday evening.
The Wildcats (0-2-1) got on the scoreboard first, as in the 29th minute of action, Leila Amini took a free kick from about 19 yards out, and was able to put the ball into the back of the net to give Arizona a 1-0 lead.
San Diego (2-1-1) then evened the score in the 33rd minute of action, as Peeples tallied her second goal of the season. Peeples took a shot from about 18 yards out, and slipped it past the UA goalkeeper to knot the score at 1-1.
Then at the 52:05 mark, Huston scored the final goal the Toreros would need. Stephanie Ochs passed the ball to Huston, who corralled the pass and hit a laser strike into the back of the net to give USD a 2-1 lead.
The Toreros weren't done yet, as in the 75th minute, Peeples was able to get another one past the Wildcat goalkeeper, to give her three goals on the young season and to give USD a 3-1 lead.
San Diego then capped the scoring in the 89th minute of action, as the Wildcats defense committed a penalty inside of their goal box, which set up a penalty kick for USD. Mock took the penalty kick, and for the second consecutive match, Mock scored on a penalty kick to put the match at its final of 4-1.
Arizona out shot the Toreros 10-8 and held a territorial 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Courtney Parsons was credited with the win in goal for the Toreros, as she allowed one goal and recorded five saves. Devon Wharf was saddled with the loss for the Wildcats as she allowed four goals and recorded one save.
The Toreros will return to action on Friday as they host Ohio State in a 7:30 p.m. match as part of the USD Nike Classic at Torero Stadium.
