Box Score

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Sophomore guard Dominique Conners lead the way with 18 points as the University of San Diego women's basketball team extended its win streak to five games by downing the University of San Francisco Dons by a final of 54-47 in a Sunday afternoon West Coast Conference contest at the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

San Diego's (10-6, 2-0 WCC) offense was plentiful as three players reached double digit scoring. Conners who lead all scorers with her 18 points also contributed with five rebounds, five steals and shot 6-of-9 from the free-throw line. Right behind Conners sophomore forward Morgan Woodrow contributed with 16 points and went a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe. Junior guard Sam Child rounded out the offensive attack for USD with 12 points, two blocks, and five rebounds.

In the first half, the Toreros and Dons traded basket-for-basket almost throughout the first 20 minutes of action. The largest margin was four points at the 9:27 mark as San Diego fell behind 17-13. But the Toreros would quickly even the score on a Sam Child jumper and subsequently take the lead as Conners, on the back end of a 6-0 run, drained a short bucket from the top of the key bringing the score to 19-17 with 6:17 to go.

Both teams would fall victim to a scoring drought over the next four minutes before the Dons would tie the game at 19-19 on a leaning jumper in the paint by Heidi Anton. But the Toreros would ultimately take the momentum in to half time as Morgan Woodrow took a fast-break opportunity to score a quick layup at the buzzer to tie the score at 23 all. The balanced half was characterized by five tied scores and ten lead changes.

Out of the blocks, San Diego would capitalize on the momentum shift from the previous half by opening the second stanza with a three pointer from Woodrow off a dish by Conners to put the Toreros up by three with 19:33 on the clock. Just before the 12th minute mark, San Diego would go up on a pair of free-throws by Conners giving the Toreros the advantage of 38-36. USD would then quickly begin to pull away from the Dons, going on an 8-0 that was capped by another pair of free-throws this time by Morgan Henderson and pushing its lead to 43-36 with 8:25 remaining. The Toreros would never relinquish the lead from that point on, leading by as much as 11 before closing out the contest with a 54-47 victory of the Dons.

San Diego will try to keep its five-game win streak alive as they enter a two game road trip up the west coast to take on WCC foes Portland (Jan. 14th) and Gonzaga (Jan.16th).
