Box Score

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Behind a two-goal effort from senior defender Natalie Garcia, the University of San Diego women's soccer team throttled the University of San Francisco, 4-1, Friday evening in a West Coast Conference match.

The Toreros (8-5-2, 1-1-0 WCC) scored the first three goals of the match in the first six minutes of action. Garcia got things started as the Dons committed a foul inside the goal box in the second minute of action, which set up a penalty kick situation. Garcia then rocketed the ball into the back of the net to give USD the early 1-0 lead.

Just two minutes later, the Toreros would double their lead, as Jackie Zinke fired off a shot that was blocked by the Dons defense, but the ball then fell to the feet of freshman Taylor Housley, who in turn hit a one-timer into the back of the net to give USD a 2-0 advantage.

Then at the 5:09 mark, Garcia tallied her second goal of the season, as Elissa Magracia took a corner kick for the Toreros and skied the ball into a crowded goal box, where Garcia corralled the pass and hit a laser strike into the back of the net, pushing the USD lead to 3-0.

San Diego would then cap their scoring for the day in the 69th minute of action, as Devany Savage was able to slip the ball past the Dons goalkeeper off of a rebound to give USD a 4-0 advantage.

San Francisco (4-11-0, 0-2-0 WCC) spoiled the shutout for the Toreros, as in the 79th minute of action, Kelsey Moe sent a pass to Merritt Peterson, who then slipped the ball to Keonna Robinson, and Robinson snuck the ball past USD's Courtney Parsons to put the match at its final of 4-1.

The two teams were even in shots at seven a piece, with the Toreros holding a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Parsons was saddled with the win in goal for the Toreros, as she allowed one goal and recorded four saves. Her counterpart, Heather Hanley, was saddled with the loss for the Dons as she allowed four goals and recorded one save.

The Toreros will return to action on Sunday as they travel to Moraga, Calif. for a 1 p.m. WCC match against Saint Mary's College.
