Sinis signs Scholarship Agreement
(San Diego, CA) - University of San Diego men's basketball head coach Bill Grier and his staff announced the signing of Ioannis "John" Sinis to a scholarship agreement. Sinis, a 6-8, 225 lb. forward from Patras, Greece, is an incoming freshman who expected to enroll at USD beginning in January, 2011.
"He's like a prototyical European player at that size," commented USD head coach Bill Grier. "He knows how to play everywhere on the court. He's good off the dribble but he's also a very good shooter and he can pass the ball. He can be an impact player right away, just because his skill level is so high." Sinis, a member of Greece's under-18 national team, was named his area's Most Valuable Player four consecutive years. In high school he averaged 29.3 points per game, 9.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists while averaging 36 minutes per game.
He played for Apollon with the U-18 team and averaged 21.8 points, 9.2 rebounds and 4 assists in 32 minutes of action per contest. The above statistics are from his playing time between the age of 14 to 18. Additionally, he was named among the top-5 players for Greece in 2008. His first appearance with the national team of Greece was at the age of 15 in a tournament in France. He followed that up with tournaments in both Italy and Turkey.
The 6-8 forward joins USD's current freshman class that includes 6-10 forward Dennis Kramer (Encinitas, CA), 6-9 forward-center Simi Fajemisin (Lynwood, WA), 6-8 forward Trevor Fuller (Dallas, TX) and 6-5 guard Ben Vozzola (Las Vegas, NV).
