(San Diego, Calif.) - The University of San Diego men's tennis team handled their Loyola Marymount counterparts on Friday afternoon, defeating the Lions 6-1 at the USD West Tennis Courts. The Toreros improved their team record to 3-1.

San Diego opened the afternoon by capturing the doubles point thanks to the Charl Walmarans and Thibaut Visy point-clinching 8-6 victory over LMU's doubles team of Borja Malet and Renzo Maggi

In singles the Toreros jumped out to a 3-0 team lead after Nikola Bubnic and Abdullah Hashem picked up straight set victories. Bubnic beat Otto Sauer at No. 2 (6-1, 6-1) and Hashem downed Zeke Hindle at No. 5 (6-2, 6-3). The Toreros clinched the victory on court three where Thibaut Visy rallied to defeat Borja Malet in three sets, 1-6, 6-2, 6-0.

LMU's lone point came at No. 6 singles where Johan Berhof got the best of Casey Powers, 6-0, 1-6, 6-1. The final match of the day took place on court one where Dean Jackson earned a hard-fought three-set win over Ivan Lopez, 6-2, 5-7, 7-5.

USD will return to action on February 20th when they will take on Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara at the USD West Tennis Courts.
