LOS ANGELES - The University of San Diego men's tennis team, following a rain delay last Friday, dropped its first match of the spring season, as it squared off against the No. 1 University of Southern California at the Trojan home-court of Marks Stadium, falling 7-0 to the Men of Troy on Sunday evening.
The unbeaten Trojans (6-0) efficiently managed to grab the doubles point, sweeping all three matches from the Toreros.
USC did not let up in singles action, as the Trojans would not surrender a single victory to San Diego (2-1). Playing at Court #1, junior Dean Jackson, after dropping the first set, 6-1, to Robert Farah, was forced to retire due to injury, giving USC a 2-0 advantage.
The Trojans would go up 3-0 on Court #2, as the No. 1 singles player in the nation, Steve Johnson, took down sophomore Nikola Bubnic, 6-2, 6-3. Soon after, senior Charl Wolmarans fell to Daniel Nguyen on Court #3, 6-3, 6-1, as the Trojans would wrap up the match victory and eventually go on to win by a final of 7-0.
San Diego returns home this week to face WCC foe, Loyola Marymount University, Friday, Feb. 12th. Match is set for 1:30 p.m. PT at the USD West Tennis Courts.
