Box Score

MALIBU, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's soccer team fought hard, but came up short in a 1-0 loss to No. 8 Pepperdine University in the West Coast Conference opener for both teams Thursday afternoon.

Pepperdine netted the game-winner in the 68th minute of action, as Laura Cole controlled a pass from Michelle Manning, and she then launched a shot into the lower left corner of the goal to give the Waves (9-0-4, 1-0-0 WCC) the victory.

USD (5-7-0, 0-1-0 WCC) had one of its best chances to equalize the score it the final minutes of action. Elissa Magracia took a corner kick for USD at the 87:04 mark, and she bowed the ball into a crowded goal box, where Lexi Deol was able to rise above all players and get a header off, that just went high to allow the Waves to escape with the win.

Pepperdine outshot the Toreros, 12-8, and they held a territorial 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Courtney Parsons was saddled with the loss in goal for the Toreros, as she allowed one goal and recorded four saves. Her counterpart, Roxanne Barker, was credited with the win for Pepperdine, as she allowed no goals and recorded four saves.

San Diego will return to action on Sunday, as they host the University of San Francisco in a 1 p.m. WCC match inside of Torero Stadium.
