Final Results 
(Newport Coast, Calif.) - The 25th-ranked USD men's golf team finished as the runner-up at the 2011 Battle at the Beach played the past three days at Pelican Hill Golf Course on its North Course (Par 70; 6,900 yards). San Diego, which held the lead after the first two rounds, was overtaken today by 2nd-ranked UCLA which finished three shots better at 1057 (+7). The Bruins were eight shots better than the Toreros today who shot a final round team score of 359 (+9) to finish at 1060 (+10). Torero senior Kenneth McCready (Placerville, CA) held on to win medalist honors with his three-round total of 203 (65-67-71). His 7-under par total was two strokes better than UCLA's Patrick Cantlay (205; 68-69-68).
Rounding out the top-five teams were Augusta State (1065; +15), Washington (1066; +16) and Arizona State (1073; +23). The Toreros beat out three teams ranked ahead of them in the Golfstat national rankings - No. 14 Augusta State (3rd place), No. 10 San Diego State (7th place) and No. 12 Arkansas (8th place).
USD also received a top-10 finish from junior Alex Ching (T8 at 212; 68-70-74), and a top-20 performance from senior Gunner Wiebe (T17 at 215; 74-69-72). Sophomore Leon Knoll, playing as an individual, played solid golf and finished tied for 14th overall at 214 (73-69-72), but his scores did not count towards USD's team score. Rounding out Torero scoring was senior Ben Murray (T29 at 218; 71-75-72), Scott Brace (T43 at 220; 70-80-70), and freshman Manav Shah (T58 at 224; 76-72-76).
There were a total of thirteen teams participating, and a total of 82 golfers. The Toreros are off now until the end of the month when they participate in the USC Invitational at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, California (Feb. 28-Mar. 1st).
