SAN DIEGO, Calif.- The University of San Diego men's tennis team notched its seventh-consecutive dual match win with a 7-0 sweep of Boston College on Friday afternoon from the Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center. The No. 20 Toreros' (10-2) seven-match winning streak matches the 2006 USD squad as the last Torero team to have a streak that long, while the Eagles fall to 4-9 on the year.
The Toreros swept through doubles play as Clarke Spinosa and Thibaut Visy, playing at No. 2 for the first time this season, defeated Alex Skinner and Jonathan Schroeder 8-1, earning their ninth win as a pair.
19th-ranked Dean Jackson and Patrick Pohlmann clinched the doubles point with their 8-3 win over Akash Muppidi and Billy Grokenberger, while Nils Schive and Abdullah Hashem wrapped up doubles play with an 8-4 victory on court three over Erik Kreutzer and Adam Davison for their first win as a pair this season.
In singles it was all USD as 82nd-ranked Spinosa notched his first win of the year at No. 3 when he took down Kreutzer in straight sets 6-3, 6-0 to improve to 18-4 on the year. Pohlmann earned his 12th singles win of the season in beating Skinner 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2, while Visy clinched the win for the Toreros with his 6-2, 6-1 win on court four over Jonathan Raude.
Jackson, ranked 30th coming in, kept the pressure on Boston College as he won his seventh-straight singles match by topping Muppidi 6-1, 6-3 to improve to a team-best 22-5. Emilio Mora posted his 12th victory of the season when he defeated Michael McGinnis at No. 5 6-1, 6-4 and Schive earned his first dual match victory of the year by defeating Schroeder 6-2, 7-5 at No. 6.
"It was another solid effort today," said Torero head coach Brett Masi after the match. "I'm very impressed with our guys playing as well as they have over this latest stretch. I give Abdullah (Hashem) and Nils (Schive) a lot of credit for filling in today in singles and doubles and helping us get some wins at those positions."
The Toreros will host Texas Christian on Sunday March 13th at 1:00 p.m.
