SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball sophomore Kimberlee Shimizu was named the Coastal Division PCSC Player of the Week Tuesday after her outstanding weekend of play at the UC Santa Barbara Gaucho Classic II tournament.
Shimizu, a Hawaii native, came out bats-blazing as she hit .500 on the weekend making four starts at the DP position. She went a perfect 3-for-3 in USD's match up against Wisconsin on Friday night including a three-RBI double pushing USD to a 9-0 lead over the Badgers. She went on a four-consecutive game hit streak for the remainder of the weekend including a double to centerfield against UNLV. Shimizu recording six hits on the weekend with one run scored and four RBI.
She had an overall On-base percentage of .500 with a slugging percentage of .667 on the weekend. Shimizu is hitting .533 overall on the season with four stats in seven appearances. She has eight hits on the season for the Toreros.
San Diego returns home to the confines of Torero Stadium where they will host the San Diego Classic II opening Friday with two neutral games at 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. while the Toreros open the weekend against Ohio State at 7:00 p.m.
