MALIBU, Calif.- The University of San Diego men's tennis team had its 12-match win streak snapped by the 8th-ranked Pepperdine Waves 6-1 on Saturday evening from Pepperdine's Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center. The 26th-ranked Toreros (15-3, 1-1 WCC) suffered their first loss since February 4th, while the Waves (16-4, 3-0 WCC) remain perfect in West Coast Conference play on the year.
Pepperdine captured the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3, while Thibaut Visy and Clarke Spinosa tallied the Toreros' lone doubles victory when Alex Llompart and Hugh Clarke retired with the score at 5-4.
In singles play, the Toreros started strong when No. 35 Dean Jackson earned a win over No. 47 Finn Tearney when, trailing 1-0 in the second set, Tearney retired. The victory was Jackson's sixth over a ranked opponent on the year and his career-high 13th-straight singles win.
From there it was all Waves, however, as Pepperdine took the remaining five singles contests to earn the victory.
USD continues their road slate when they travel to the Bay Area on Tuesday, April 5th for a 1:30 p.m. match at California, followed by a 1:30 p.m. contest at Stanford the following day.
