SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Behind a balanced offensive attack that saw four different Toreros score in double figures, and a sound defensive effort that held Pepperdine University to just 25% shooting form the floor, the University of San Diego women's basketball team pounded the Waves, 70-39, in a West Coast Conference game at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

With the win, three Toreros improve to 15-5 overall, improve to 6-2 in the WCC and have now won three of their last four games. The Toreros also move into sole possession of third place in the WCC. With the loss, the Waves fall to 10-10 overall and 5-4 in the WCC.

Dominique Conners led all scorers with 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field, while also dishing out five assists. In the first half, the first few minutes were pretty even keel, as USD grabbed the first basket of the game, and never relinquished the lead. With the Toreros leading 10-7 at the 15:06 mark, a Felicia Wijenberg basket then sparked a 8-0 San Diego run over the next 3:30 to give USD all the momentum and a 18-7 lead. After the Waves ended their scoring drought with a Shay Cooney-Williams jumper, San Diego would continue to push ahead, as a Conners lay-up sparked a 22-0 run to give USD all the momentum and a 21-poit lead at 30-9 with 5:59 to go. USD would then cruise their way into halftime with a 32-17 lead.

In the second half, USD and Pepperidne seemed to battle back and forth trading basket-for-basket over the first 10 minutes of action, with the Toreros never letting the margin dip below 15 points. Then with USD leading 40-25, a Conners lay-up ignited a 15-4 Toreros run to give USD 55-29 lead with 4:57 to go. USD never let up, as they continued to pull ahead and led by as many as 32, before settling for a 31-point margin.

The Toreros will return to action on Thursday when they host Santa Clara University in a7 p.m. game inside the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
