SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat to No. 15 Pepperdine on Sunday afternoon from Torero Stadium. The Waves scored a goal early and a goal late to seal the victory while holding a commanding 20-5 edge in shots over USD on the day.

Pepperdine (11-5-0, 3-1-0 WCC) got an early goal on a corner kick in the 17th minute when Anisa Guajardo controlled the kick and snuck it past USD keeper McKenna Tollack to put the Waves up 1-0.

The USD defense, which was playing a player down for most of the contest after a red card to Meghan O'Rourke in the 34th minute, held strong for much of the game as Pepperdine continued to put pressure on by keeping the ball on USD's side of the pitch for the majority of the contest. Tollack (5-8-0) recorded six saves, including a pair of great one-on-one stops.

The Toreros (7-9-0, 3-2-0 WCC) may not have had a lot of shots in the game but they had two very close misses that could easily have changed the tone of the contest. In the first half, Emily Dillon had an open look in front of the goal that just missed wide left, while an Erica Peeples header off a cross in the second half barely sailed wide right.

Instead, the Waves added an insurance goal in the 85th minute when Mandy Davis took a long pass from Taylor Vargo from the far right wing and slipped it past Tollack for the final score.

Roxanne Barker (10-4-0) tallied two saves in the win.

The Toreros host BYU on Oct. 25 for a 7:00 pm WCC contest at Torero Stadium.
