Six Toreros earn All-WCC Accolades

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's soccer team had six players earn All-West Coast Conference honors. Taking home first-team accolades was senior defender Dani Russell, while Meghan O'Rourke was tabbed second-team. Taking home All-WCC honorable mention accolades was both Mariah Hobbs and Kelley McCloskey, while Meggie Gulczynski and McKenna Tollack were named to the All-Freshman team.

Russell, a 5-8 defender from Long Beach, Calif., helped pace the Toreros offense and defense this season. Russell recorded, a career-high four goals this season, while adding in one assist for nine points. Russell scored goals against Minnesota (8-24), San Francisco (9-29), Loyola Marymount (10-7) and against Gonzaga (11-2). She tallied her one assist in the season-finale against Gonzaga (11-2). This is Russell's second All-WCC accolade of her career, as she was an All-WCC honorable mention as a junior.

O'Rourke, a 5-4 defender from Solana Beach, Calif., scored one goal and recorded four assists, while also helping the Torero defense post six total shutouts on the season. O'Rourke scored her only goal of the season in the win over Minnesota (8-24). She recorded assists against San Francisco (9-29), Loyola Marymount (10-7) and two against Gonzaga (11-2). This mark's her second consecutive All-WCC accolade, as she was on the All-Freshman team and an All-WCC honorable mention last season.

Hobbs, a 5-7 midfielder from Las Vegas, Nev., had her best season in a Torero uniform, as she recorded three goals, tied for second most on the team, and she added in one assist for seven points. Hobbs tallied one goal against, San Francisco (9-29), one against BYU (10-25) and she scored the game-winner against Gonzaga (11-2), which was the second fastest goal in USD women's soccer history. She recorded her one assist against USC (9-14). This is Hobbs' second All-WCC accolade, as she was an All-Freshman team member three seasons ago.

McCloskey, a 5-3 midfielder from San Marino, Calif., takes home her first All-WCC accolade, after recording three goals and three assists for nine points. McCloskey scored one goal against Washington State (8-31), scored the game-winner against Cal State Northridge (9-23), and she one against Santa Clara (10-28). McCloskey's assists came against Minnesota (8-24), USC (9-14), and against Saint Mary's (10-12).

Gulczynski, a 5-8 Defender from San Diego, Calif., made an immediate impact in only her first season with the team. Gulczynski recorded one goal and added in three assists for five points. She scored her lone goal of the season in the season-opener against Pepperdine (8-17). She then recorded her assists against Minnesota (8-24), San Francisco (9-29) and against Gonzaga (11-2).

Tollack, a 5-11 goalkeeper from Carlsbad, Calif., also made an immediate impact in her rookie campaign as well. She played in all 19 matches with 16 starts, while bolstering a goals-against-average of 1.83. For the season, she recorded 80 saves and had 5.1 shutouts, including 3.1 shutouts in WCC play.
