Biography
JUNIOR (2011): Played and started in all 22 matches as a mainstay in the Torero defense... helped lead the team to the program's first WCC championship, and into the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament...scored three goals and added in one assist for seven points...named All-WCC honorable mention... scored one goal against Missouri (9/19/11), Gonzaga (10/27/11) and Santa Clara (11/4/11)... recorded one assist against Kansas (9/28/11)...helped the team post six shutouts, and bolster a 0.88 team goals-against-average.
JUNIOR (2010): Took a medical redshirt at USD.
SOPHOMORE (2009): Played and started in all 21 matches as a mainstay in the Torero defense...Had 1 assist during the Seattle game which led to a 2-1 win...Helped the team reach an overall GAA of 1.21... helped the team finish second in the prestigious West Coast Conference and earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament...helped the Torero defense record seven shutouts.
FRESHMAN (2008): Played in 18 matches with one start...helped the team receive a national ranking as high as No. 11... helped the team advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament...made her one start in a win against Loyola Marymount (10-26-08).
HIGH SCHOOL: Earned four varsity letters in soccer while playing at Woodrow Wilson High School...helped lead her team to four consecutive Moore League Championships...as a senior she helped lead her team to the NSCAA/Rivals.com National Championship, and a CIF-SS Championship, while tallying 11 goals and 11 assists...as a senior, was named first-team All-CIF-SS, was named the Moore League Defender of the Year, the LA Times Player of the Year...was named the Press Telegram Dream Team Player of the Year and was named to Rise Magazine's All-Area team...as a junior was named first-team All-CIF-SS, and was named first-team All-Moore League.
PERSONAL: Danielle Jillian Russell was born on August 23, 1990...she is the daughter of Debi and Chris Russell...was heavily recruited by Cal, Santa Clara, Loyola Marymount, Harvard and Pepperdine...chose to attend USD because of the location, academic reputation and because of the strong women's soccer program.
