Grant Forrest continued his solid play this fall as he carded an opening round 2-under par 70 and is tied for 9th overall.
Georgia Southern holds a one stroke lead over North Carolina State following their opening team total of 283. Three players were tied for the individual lead after fashioning rounds of 68 - Amol Mahal (UCSB), Adrian Meronk (East Tennesee State) and Korey Ward (Xavier).
Rounding out USD scoring was Linus Vaisanen (T24 at 73), Alexis Gemme-Piacente (T38 at 75), Alex Chiarella (T38 at 75) and Mathias Dahl (T58 at 77).
The Toreros find themselves just two strokes back of two teams currently tied for 6th place - UC Santa Barbara and co-host Pepperdine.
