PROVO, Utah - The University of San Diego saw their three-game winning streak come to an end against Brigham Young in a 64-50 defeat Saturday afternoon.
BYU (23-5, 11-3 WCC) had their biggest lead of the half at 21-15 with 6:25 remaining, but the Toreros closed the half on an 11-4 run to knot things up at 26-26 at halftime.
The Toreros (19-7, 10-4 WCC) limited the Cougars to 10-of-31 shooting (32.3%) in the first half, but BYU knocked in five of their seven three pointers to keep pace.
San Diego led by five, 39-34, with 13:55 remaining after a Morgan Woodrow three-pointer. The Cougars clawed their way back and regained the lead 42-41 on a Lexi Eaton layup at the 9:34 mark and never looked back, closing the game on a 24-9 run.
The Toreros had their hands full in the paint with BYU center Kristen Riley (12 points, 13 rebounds). Haley Steed contributed 14 points (four three-pointers) and five assists. Lexi Eaton added 11 points and Jennifer Hamson added 14 points, seven rebounds and three blocks off the bench.
The Toreros were led by Dominique Conners' 11 points and three assists. Morgan Woodrow was the only other Torero in double figures, finishing with 10 points.
The Toreros head back to the friendly confines of Jenny Craig Pavilion this Thursday for a 7 p.m. tipoff against Saint Mary's.
