MALIBU, Calif. - The University of San Diego men's basketball team posted a 70-57 victory at Pepperdine Thursday evening from the Firestone Fieldhouse. The Toreros (10-14, 5-7 WCC) were led offensively by Christopher Anderson's 15 points and game-high seven assists. Cameron Miles pitched in with a career-high 14 points off the bench, while Chris Manresa added 12 points.
The Toreros' 51 percent shooting from the field and timely rebounding proved to be a key to the win. USD outrebounded Pepperdine 37-27 on the night, while Manresa and Simi Fajemisin each grabbed six rebounds to lead the Toreros.
The Toreros jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before Pepperdine a short 8-0 run that gave them an 8-4 lead within the first five minutes. At the 14:20 mark in the first half, USD regained the lead on a jumper by Fajemisin, who had five points on the night, and didn't let go of the lead for the rest of the game.USD's largest lead of the contest came in the final minute when they were up 70-55.
Pepperdine (8-16, 2-11 WCC) only got as close as four points in the second half. Corbin Moore led all players with 17 points and 11 rebounds on the night. Joshua Lowery had 10 points for Pepperdine as well.
The Toreros return home on Saturday, Feb. 11th when they face San Francisco at 6:00 pm.
