Men's Tennis Adds Ross Wilson to Coaching Staff

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - University of San Diego men's tennis head coach Brett Masi has announced the addition of Ross Wilson to his coaching staff. Wilson will take over as Masi's top assistant beginning this fall.

"What can I say, I like my assistants to be from the Midwest!" said Masi. "Ross is a well accomplished player and coach and the team and myself are lucky to have him join the program. From his time at Ohio State, on the tour and at Kenyon, Ross is going to bring a lot to the table and really help teach this team what it takes to not only be a college tennis player but a professional tennis player as well."

Wilson was a two time NCAA All-American and three time ITA national doubles champion at Ohio State from 2002-2006. Among his numerous accolades while a Buckeye, Wilson broke Ohio State's overall career wins record, career doubles wins record and single season doubles wins record in 2006. He was part of the only doubles tandem in the history of college tennis to ever win back-to-back ITA National Indoor titles (2005 & 2006) and was part of the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the nation those seasons.

"I want to thank coach Masi and the USD athletic department for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the Torero family," said Wilson. "I am looking forward to working with coach Masi and continuing to building USD into one of the nation's premier tennis programs!"

Following his collegiate playing career, Wilson played two years on the USTA Pro Circuit in 2007 and 2008. During his professional tenure he earned a career high ranking of No. 587 while winning three ITF Pro Circuit titles. Wilson also coached at the professional level as the personal coach of Sharon Fichman, who was ranked among the top 100 women in the world on the WTA tour.

Prior to coming to USD, Wilson served as the men's and women's assistant coach at Kenyon College from 2010-2012. He helped guide the men's team to their first NCAA Div. III Tournament finals appearance in program history in 2012, while also helping lead the team to a No. 2 final ITA national ranking, which was the highest in program history. Wilson was named the 2012 ITA National Assistant Coach of the Year and the ITA Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year. Wilson coached three singles All-Americans at Kenyon, one doubles All-American team and an NCAA Tournament singles semifinalist.
