SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Junior third baseman Kris Bryant of the 12th-ranked University of San Diego baseball team has been tabbed a first-team preseason All-American by Baseball America.
Bryant, a 6-5 junior from Las Vegas, Nev., finished the 2012 season with a .366 batting average after recording 78 hits, 17 doubles, three triples and 14 home runs. Bryant also recorded 57 RBI and was slugging at a .671 clip at season's end. Bryant was a first-team All-WCC selection for the second consecutive season and helped lead USD to the third best record in program history at 40-17, and he was a first-team All-America selection by Baseball America last season.
Bryant and the rest of the Toreros will open the 2013 season on February 15, as they begin a three-game series with cross-town rival San Diego State University inside of USD's new stadium, Fowler Park. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
