Toreros Fall to No. 18 Santa Clara 1-0

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's soccer team (7-5-0, 0-1-0) fell 1-0 to No. 18 Santa Clara (7-3-1, 1-0-0) in their first WCC match of the season Thursday evening.

The Broncos scored the game-winning goal in the 31st minute when Julie Johnston finished a cross from Sofia Huerta. Seven of the Toreros' nine shot attempts came in the first half, however none of them could find the back of the net.

The Toreros posted a shutout in the second half despite the Broncos firing ten shots to USD's two. Sophomore goalkeeper Michelle Craft had seven saves, but was saddled with the loss (7-5-0), while the Broncos keeper, Andi Tostanoski (7-3-1), earned the win and had six saves.

Mariah Butera and Emily Dillon led the Toreros' offensive attack, putting all of their five combined shot attempts on frame.

The Toreros will be back in action on Saturday when they play at San Francisco (5-6-2, 0-2-0) at 2:00 p.m. The Dons are coming off a 2-0 home loss to BYU.
